Family Card Common Questions

For a parent or guardian a Family Card is a great way to give money to a loved one but still control when, where, and how the money is spent. The parent gets a powerful set of card controls as well as real-time transaction alerts keeping the parent in control. If you see a transaction you don’t like, you can turn the card off in our web or mobile app and even recall the money on the card. A Family Card is great for kids, elderly parents, or anyone who needs a little supervision.

For the child or dependent, a Family Card is a great way to receive and store money. Unlike cash, a lost or stolen card can be replaced. Also, since every child card comes with its own routing and account number, anyone – grandparents, aunts and uncles, and more – can deposit money on the card. It’s also a great way to learn about money and the responsibility that comes with having a card.

Our controls on our Family Cards are extensive. In addition to real-time transaction alerts, an immediate “card off” option, and the ability to recall funds from the card, you also get:

• Daily, weekly, or monthly spending limits for all purchases or limited by merchant category
• Day and time card curfews limiting the hours of the day or days of the week that the card can be used
• Transaction maximums for all transactions or limited by merchant category
• Block any particular merchant category where you don’t want the card used
• Geofence the card by zip code so you can decide in what areas the card can be used
• Enable international transactions globally or by country
• Block P2P payments, block a reload from an ATM or Visa® Readlylink, and block ATM withdrawals if you want

You can get real-time transaction alerts via email or text any time a transaction is made with a Family Card you control. If you see something you don’t like, you can immediately turn the card “off” in our web or mobile app and even recall the money on the card.

The cardholder gets these same real-time transaction alerts as well.

MOCA will never charge you a fee to apply for or use the Family Card, but third parties may. For instance, the owner of an ATM may charge a fee for using the ATM, or there may be third-party fees for card-to-card transfers or for adding money at a Visa® Readylink location, but all fees will be clearly and conspicuously disclosed so you can decide if you want to pay them or not.

Family Card cardholders never pay fees for:

• Overdrafts
• Cash back
• Purchases

Absolutely. Your child or loved one can load the card details into Apple Pay or Google Wallet and make mobile payments. The card is also chip enabled and contactless, so your child or loved one can tap and pay. You can also give your child or loved one a virtual card for free.

Yes! Every time your child or loved one makes a purchase, he or she earns cash-back rewards. If your child or loved one makes at least 10 purchases in a month, we’ll double the cash-back rewards. Cash-back rewards can be redeemed for cash at any time in our web or mobile app.

Every time you use your PATRIOT Card to make a purchase, you earn cash-back rewards. If you do 10 purchases in a month, we will double your rewards. You can redeem your rewards for cash at any time in our web or mobile app.

As a parent or guardian, qualifying for a Family Card Account is easy. You must be over 18, have a government issued ID, a valid social security number, a valid email address, and a physical address (No P.O. Boxes). That’s it!

As far as your child, the only restriction is that they be at least 6 years old.

None, unless you count your government issued ID. We don’t require you to submit any documentation.

No! We ask for your social security number so we can be sure you are who you say you are, but we don’t check your credit and applying won’t have any effect on your credit.

Your Family Card Account has its own routing and account numbers so you can move money from another bank account directly to your Family Card Account. To access your Family Card Account routing and account numbers, choose “Details” > “Account Info.”

Adding money to a Family Card is easy too. You can move money in real-time from your Family Card Account in our desktop or mobile apps, and since our Family Cards have their own routing and account numbers you can also move money from another bank account directly to the Family Card. Finally, you can make card-to-card transfers* as well.

Absolutely! Banking services are provided by Peoples State Banks, Shepherd, Texas, member FDIC, and your funds are insured up to $250,000.

Yes. Since the Family Card has its own routing and account numbers, cardholders can direct deposit regular paychecks directly to the card.
