PATRIOT Card Common Questions

You want to carry a PATRIOT Card for many reasons. First, a portion of every purchase goes to organizations that support veterans. Second, you earn cash-back rewards on every purchase. Next, it has features and benefits your current card doesn’t such as:

MOCA is a financial technology company based right outside of Austin, Texas, and we developed the PATRIOT Card in collaboration with the Association of Military Banks of America. MOCA supports the PATRIOT Card. Banking services are provided by Peoples State Banks, Shepherd, Texas, member FDIC, and your funds are insured up to $250,000.

MOCA will never charge you a fee to apply for or use the PATRIOT Card, but third parties may. For instance, the owner of an ATM may charge a fee for using the ATM, or there may be fees for card-to-card transfers, or for adding money at a Visa® Readylink location, but all fees will be clearly and conspicuously disclosed so you can decide if you want to pay them or not.

PATRIOT cardholders never pay fees for:

• Overdrafts
• Cash back
• Transfers to or from other bank accounts
• Purchases

Qualifying for a PATRIOT Card is easy. You must be over 18, have a government issued ID, a valid social security number, a valid email address, and a physical address (No P.O. Boxes). That’s it! You don’t have to be a veteran or active-duty military. If you meet the above requirements, you can apply!

Veterans who are homeless, formerly homeless, or simply do not have a permanent address can use their Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) identification (ID) and a VA Homeless Coordinator’s office address to apply for a PATRIOT card.

None, unless you count your government issued ID. We don’t require you to submit any documentation.

In most cases, you are approved immediately! Even better, we give you a virtual card to use right away while you wait for your physical card in the mail. Your security is our number one priority, so in some cases we may reach out to you to confirm some information in your application. No. Although many PATRIOT Card holders will connect their cards to their bank account so they can move funds from their account to their card, the PATRIOT Card can also be funded by direct deposit, card-to-card transfers*, or by loading cash at any of more than 60,000 Visa® Readylink locations*. Because each PATRIOT Card has its own routing and account numbers, it can be used like a bank account. Because funds stored on a PATRIOT Card are held by Peoples State Bank, Shepherd, TX, they are FDIC insured.

Absolutely! Banking services are provided by Peoples State Banks, Shepherd, Texas, member FDIC, and your funds are insured up to $250,000.

No! We ask for your social security number so we can be sure you are who you say you are, but we don’t check your credit and applying won’t have any effect on your credit.

Every time you use your PATRIOT Card to make a purchase, you earn cash-back rewards. If you do 10 purchases in a month, we will double your rewards. You can redeem your rewards for cash at any time in our web or mobile app.

This cash-back is in addition to the portion of every purchase that goes to an organization supporting veterans.

Yes. The PATRIOT Card has routing and account numbers, like a checking account, and can be used for bill pay and direct deposit. To find your PATRIOT Card routing and account numbers go to your MocaPay app, and go to “Details” > “Account Info”.

Absolutely. You can load the card details into Apple Pay or Google Wallet and make mobile payments. The card is also chip enabled and contactless, so you can tap and pay. You can also self-issue virtual cards for free.

There are many ways to put funds on your PATRIOT Card.

• Transferring money from a bank account
• Card-to-card*
• Deposit cash at any of 60,000 Visa® Readylink locations*

Yes. Cardholders can direct deposit government benefits or regular paychecks to the card. The app’s automated direct deposit management feature makes switching direct deposits easy. You can also use the app to conveniently move money on and off the card via card-to-card* or bank transfers, and even deposit cash at over 60,000 Visa® Readylink locations*.

You may also get early access to your direct deposit. Early access depends on the timing of the submission of the payments file from the payer. We generally make these funds available on the day the payment file is received, which may be up to 2 days earlier than the scheduled payment date for regular paychecks or 4 days earlier for government benefits.

You can get real-time transaction alerts via email or text any time a transaction is made with your PATRIOT Card. If you see something you don’t recognize, immediately turn your card “off” in the MocaPay web or mobile app.

Our controls on our PATRIOT Cards are extensive. In addition to real-time transaction alerts and an immediate “card off” option, you also get:

• Daily, weekly, or monthly spending limits for all purchases or limited by merchant category
• Day and time card curfews limiting the hours of the day or days of the week that the card can be used
• Transaction maximums for all transactions or limited by merchant category
• Block any particular merchant category where you don’t want the card used
• Geofence the card by zip code so you can decide in what areas the card can be used
• Enable international transactions globally or by country
• Block P2P payments, block a reload from an ATM or Visa® Readlylink, and block ATM withdrawals if you want
